Projects

The Blue House

The Blue house is the re-construction of an abandoned ruin, located on ‘Old Harbour Road’ of Capelas – the historic whaling street on the North side of Sao Miguel Island. Balancing between old and contemporary, the design takes advantage of the existing elements, while creating contrast and balance. ┬áThe primary construction elements of all the walls, floors, roofs and embedded structure were pre-fabricated and assembled on-site in 10 days. The chosen panel system provided very accurate assembly, high thermal efficiency and a carbon neutral result. The blue facade material is up-cycled ocean plastic that has been collected and re-cast into cladding material for this project.

Location: Azores | Portugal
Completion: 2022
Structure: Wood prefab panels (SIP)
Use: Short-term Habitation
