Through a rigorous process of scripting and geometric manipulation, this project aims to discover methods for minimising material use, while simultaneously preserving the functional requirements of serving as a table.
The design challenges the principle of straight-lined structural paths, and the material is formed by excavating cells, which leave organic beams that aggregate where strength is needed, and fan out where it is not.
The resulting form was carved out of a solid slab of clear acrylic with with digital fabrication techniques which enabled accurate results and a high quality finish.
