Big Sur Retreat

This project investigates the relationship between man and nature. It is an attempt to fuse the dualistic nature of urban objects into a natural setting, while blending it into its context.
Given the spectacular setting of the Big Sur forest, three sites were chosen. One within a redwood grove near a rushing creek. The structure nestles itself into a hillside, simultaneously respecting the environment and enriching it. The beams act as the main element, pulling far out into the background of the scene as meandering lines, and coming to a climax as they cantiliver off of the ground to form an orthogonal box which holds an interior space.
